While our brand new aftermarket game consoles have tight game connectors and work FAR better than the older, original NES/SNES/Genesis consoles, you will still need to clean your game cartridges if they are extremely dirty. However, this is very simple to do. Simply take a few q-tips and scrub each side of the metal contacts inside of the game cartridges. NOTE: there is no need to add any cleaning chemicals to the q-tips; dry q-tips actually get the job done even faster (and usually better) than q-tips that are soaked in chemicals.
Once you start scrubbing the contacts of the game cartridges with a q-tip, you will notice that the q-tip quickly turns black (if your games are dirty, and in need of cleaning). Keep scrubbing away until the q-tips stop turning completely black after scrubbing on each side of the contacts (you will probably need to use a few q-tips for each game that you need to clean).
This is only necessary if your games have not been cleaned for a long time. After sitting around for a few years, ANY game with metal contacts (IE: NES/SNES/Genesis games) have a tendency to fall victim to oxidation (due to black rust forming on the contacts). This black gunk can be scrubbed off using q-tips fairly easily. Also, another good thing about having clean NES games is that they will go in and out of your game console easier.
Lastly, you will notice that the original 8-bit NES games will go in and out of our aftermarket NES consoles fairly hard. This is normal because they have a tight game connector (to make the games play easier). If you have trouble getting a NES game out of your system, try gentling rocking/wiggling the game cartridge left and right (side to side) while pulling upwards at the same time. Again, the cleaner your NES games are, the easier they will go in and out of your game console.
